Three people died on Tuesday when the matatu they were travelling in collided head-on with a pick-up in Ol Kalou.
Eleven others were injured in the 4.30 pm accident at Kiriundu River near Tumaini town.
The Satima Sacco matatu was on its way to Nyahururu via Ol Kalou while the pick-up was headed to Nakuru with three people on board. The matatu had 14 passengers and three minors.
Witness James Macharia said the pick-up lost control down the slope towards the sharp corner at Kiriundu River before hitting the on-coming matatu.
The pick-up driver sustained serious injuries while his two passengers escaped with minor injuries.
Nyandarua Central OCPD Wilson Kosgei attributed the accident to reckless driving.
“We cannot rule out recklessness and speeding,” he said.
The injured were rushed to JM Memorial hospital and those in a critical condition to Kinangop, Kijabe and Nakuru hospitals.
