FORMER TANZANIAN PM DELIVERS SPECIAL MESSAGE TO KENYA DURING NKAISSERY’S BURIAL

Former Tanzanian Prime Minister Edward Lowassa.

Former Tanzanian Prime Minister Edward Lowassa has appealed to Kenyans to uphold peace in the run up to, during, and after the August general elections.

Lowassa spoke on Saturday at the funeral of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.

“Kenya is the most developed country in East Africa. My brother Nkaissery was a peaceful person. I urge you all to emulate him especially during this political season. Let’s not repeat the past mistakes (the 2007/2008 post election violence),” said Lowassa.

Lowassa’s sentiments were reiterated by President Uhuru Kenyatta who was also present at the burial.

There have been increasing cases of violence during political rallies in the past few weeks. Specifically, both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga have been subjected to hostility during their respective tours of Kisumu and Central Kenya.

ONE NATION
“In the end we have only one nation. There is no other country we can run to if we destroy Kenya. The issue of stone throwing and heckling during campaigns should stop. If you have an issue with a politician, please express your wish during voting,” President Kenyatta said.

The President also recalled his last moments with the departed CS and pledged to support the family.

Other present at the funeral held in Kajiado County was Deputy President William Ruto, Mr Odinga, plus several politicians and senior government officials.

Nkaissery died suddenly last Saturday morning in what postmortem results showed was heart failure.
