MAGUFULI AND MUSEVENI SET TO LAUNCH PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION

President John Magufuli will, on August 5, this year, join his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, to launch construction of oil pipeline in Tanga.

The pipeline, which runs from Hoima in Uganda to Tanga Port, has been designed to pump crude oil from the land locked country.

A statement from State House described the pipeline as one of major projects to be undertaken by the fifth phase government since it came into power in November 5, 2015.

“Values at $3.5 billion or Sh8 trillion, this is a project whose investment size is huge,” reads part of the state house statement.

The 1,445km pipeline will transport 216,000 barrels per day. Some 1,115km of the entire pipeline will be in Tanzania.

It is expected that during construction the project would employ about 10,000 people and Tanzanians will be the most beneficiaries.

The two countries will also reap social and economic benefits from the project including taxes, royalties and other activities around the project.
