RC IN ZANZIBAR VOWS TO ARREST 336 YOUTS OVER CRIMINAL ACTS
Zanzibar. The Unguja Urban West Regional Commissioner, Mr Ayoub Mohamed Mahmoud, has given two weeks to 336 youths accused of taking part in criminal acts in different parts of the Region to surrender to the police otherwise they will be arrested.
Mr Mahmoud made the statement on Monday at his Vuga office in Unguja Urban when speaking to reporters.
He explained that the list of the names of the wanted youths was obtained after a meeting of the regional defence and security committee.
He note that in the meeting they learned that in West District ‘B’ there were 158 young people involved in such behaviours, West District ‘A’ has 92 and Urban District habours 86 suspects.
He went on to explain that most of the youth were thought to be coming from Miembeni, Kwamtipura and Shaurimoyo, areas noted as notorious for harbouring criminal gangs.
“We have already started summoning some of them through Police Force. So, I call upon the suspects that once they receive those police summonses they should hand in themselves to the Police Force instead of waiting to be pursued… we have given them two week to do so,” said Mahmoud.
Speaking over a recent criminal incident in which a Mtoni Kidato bus conductor was beaten, the RC said a total of 44 suspects, including the ring leader, have been arrested.
However, he said investigations were still ongoing and that once completed legal action would be taken against the culprits.
