US-RUSSIA PROBE: TRUMP SON-IN LAW KUSHNER TO FACE SENATE
President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner will be questioned by senators later about alleged Russian interference in the US election.
In a closed-door session, a Senate panel will probe Mr Kushner on his relationship with Russian officials.
One key area will be a meeting with a Russian lawyer who allegedly promised damaging material on Hillary Clinton.
Mr Trump has denied allegations of collusion with Russia, but they have continued to dog his presidency.
The Senate, the House of Representatives and a special counsel are all conducting investigations into the allegations.
US intelligence agencies have concluded that Russian state agents hacked into Democratic Party computers to undermine Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
Mr Kushner, who is married to Mr Trump's daughter, Ivanka, will attend a session on Monday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, and then appear before the House version on Tuesday.
Mr Kushner, 36, is a senior adviser to the president and was in charge of the Trump campaign's digital strategy. He will be asked about his knowledge of the hacking and social media trolling, and whether there was any collusion.
The meeting with the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, in June last year will be high on the agenda.
It was also attended by Mr Trump's son, Donald Jr, and former campaign chief Paul Manafort. In a series of emails Mr Trump Jr admitted he attended because he was promised compromising material on Mrs Clinton, but there are still many unanswered questions surrounding the meeting.
Other meetings and contacts Mr Kushner had, or has, with Russian officials will also be probed.
Kushner: The key questions
The Veselnitskaya affair. What did Jared Kushner know ahead of the meeting with the Russian lawyer last year? Was he expecting dirt on Hillary Clinton? What happened at the meeting? Who organised it and who else was there?
Other Russian contacts. Why did he meet Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak in December? Why meet Sergei Gorkov, head of Russia's Vnesheconbank, under US sanctions since 2014, the same month? Who else did he meet and why? What are his Russian business links? Did he set up a back channel to Moscow?
Security clearance. Why has Mr Kushner been continually updating his national security questionnaire, adding previously undisclosed meetings with foreign officials, including the name of Ms Veselnitskaya?
Mr Kushner is not expected to invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.
His lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said his client would "continue to co-operate and appreciates the opportunity to assist in putting this matter to rest".
Mr Kushner is also not expected to be under oath on Monday. However, what he says could be used against him at a later date and may well be passed to the special counsel, Robert Mueller, to help his investigation.
Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence panel, said: "There's a lot we want to know. We have a lot of ground to cover."
Mr Trump Jr and Mr Manafort had been scheduled to appear before Congress on Wednesday to testify but that has been delayed indefinitely as lawyers negotiate on the documentation and information to be discussed.
President Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion with Russia.
He continued his tirade against the investigation process on Sunday, tweeting: "As the phony Russian Witch Hunt continues, two groups are laughing at this excuse for a lost election taking hold, Democrats and Russians!"
Russia has also denied any involvement.
