TEF MEMBERS WARN THEIR LEADERS AGAINST AKING DECISIONS WITHOUT CONSULTATIONS

Dar es Salaam. Members of Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) have warned their leaders against taking decisions without consultations, following the decision to lift media blackout imposed against Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Mr Paul Makonda.

The decision to lift a media blackout imposed on Mr Makonda last week, following his invasion of Clouds Media Group studios in March, drew a strong criticism from media stakeholders.

“Leaders (TEF’s) should make sure that they consult members before making decisions on big issue…the ban was imposed by TEF general meeting and the leaders should have consulted members before lifting the ban,” read a statement in part, which was signed by Mr Wallace Mauggo, the chairman of TEF special committee.

According to the statement during TEF extra ordinary meeting its leaders apologized to it members following their decision.

“We won’t spare any leader or person who infringes media freedom,” said Mr Mauggo.
